Jo-Michael Scheibe, Professor and Program
Director, Choral Studies, received B.A. and M.A. degrees from California State
University at Long Beach, and a D.M.A. from the University of Southern California.
Scheibe held positions in California and Arizona prior to his arrival at the
University of Miami. He conducts the University of Miami Chorale.
Ensembles under his leadership have sung at state, regional, and national conventions of the American Choral Directors Association and the Music Educators National Conference. In addition, his ensembles have performed with some of the world's greatest singers, including Luciano Pavarotti, Jose Carreras, Marvis Martin, Jon Aler, Richard Zoeller, and Henrietta Schellenberg.
Scheibe has served as the artistic and music director of the Florida Philharmonic Chorus, a 130 voice Symphonic Chorus, the official chorus of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro James Judd. Scheibe is a frequent guest conductor of all state choirs, honor choirs, and high school and collegiate festivals.
He is past president of the ACDA Western Division, and a guest lecturer at ACDA conventions, state music educators conventions, and universities throughout the U.S. and Australia. He serves as an editor for Colla Voce and is the associate publisher for Walton Music, where choral compositions are published in a choral series under his name.
